Campisi’s and Guns

I took this photo at Campisi’s resstaurant in downtown Dallas the other night.  Now for those of you wo don’t know, the state of Texas has concealed carry laws.  The lawmakers put forth very specific language that has to be posted prominently.  Somehow I don’t think up high in a corner – on a wall that looks like newsprint – counts.

If you don’t live in Dallas, you may not know that Campisi’s has some ties to history.  On the night before the JFK assassination Jack Ruby, who shot and killed Lee Harvey Oswald, dined at the original Campisi’s restaurant on Mockingbird Lane.  Additionally, urban rumor claims that the original Campisi family members were connected to the mafia, and for some time this was a “cash only” establishment.

Sweet, did you get Amber’s autograph?

Hey, dude, I just noticed — their sign doesn’t say they don’t allow weapons. It just points out the fact that weapons require licenses. So the whole rule about needing to include the exact language referencing Statute #30.06(c)(3)(B) doesn’t apply anyway.

Dude – did a Google image search for Amber Campisi. WOW. Is she actually related to the family? Her Wiki was a bit lacking.

And thanks for stealing my thunder on the gun sign. I did actually realize that it was not required to comply with the statute you cited. I just thought it was funny – primarily because of the wall it was posted on.

You were right about that — it was a funny place to put a gun “warning.”

Amber is indeed related to the Campisi folks — she discussed in *ahem* a certain national magazine how she hands out headshots to inquiring customers when she’s in the restaurant (which probably isn’t much these days, what with her being a Playmate and all).

Do you find it funny that the number of Texas’s concealed-handgun statute is thirty-aught-six?

Since I posted my last comment, I was reminded of Amber’s playmate status. There was a big “signing” party held at the original Campisis location when she appeared in the magazine. I remember a bunch of people wanted to take off work to go “see” her. Hard to believe I had forgotten that already.

I still remember sitting through our concealed carry class together and learning the trick to remembering the statute number – thirty-aught-six. Good times.
